Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located many other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police say early analysis show the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
City officials said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior political figure stated the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in 2020.
