Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a long and happy life without fear.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
