The Latest Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes several notable adjustments:

  • Every squad has just 8 human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for gamers seeking alternative methods to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the player base compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
