The buzz about the recent awards show has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team could be building a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—elements that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible with a specific type of character with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously flexible, letting players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be solved in a variety of manners, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is precisely these elements that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
