PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the French league champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck twice in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
