Instructor Fatally Shot and 25 Girls Abducted in Firefight at Educational Institution in Nigeria

Gun-wielding individuals have killed a teacher and abducted at least 25 students in an raid targeting a female high school in Nigeria's northwestern region, police reports indicate.

The criminal group breached the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State at around 4 AM local time on the start of the week, police confirmed.

The attackers "engaged police personnel on duty in a gun duel" before climbing over the boundary wall and taking the pupils captive from their hostel, authorities disclosed.

An educational worker was fatally shot while defending the students. An additional employee received firearm injuries and is now undergoing medical care.

Eyewitnesses described a considerable contingent of armed individuals, known locally as bandits, who came shooting randomly to create fear.

Local residents told reporters that the gunmen subsequently marched a number of girls into adjacent wilderness.
