Heavy Precipitation Exacerbate Circumstances for Uprooted Residents of Gaza, UN Alert

Heavy rains over the last seven days have worsened the extremely difficult situation of the hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians in the territory, according to humanitarian groups.

"Awful" Night Poses Severe Dangers

A representative described the previous night's conditions as "horrendous", with downpours so intense that around 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the streets.

"Last night was exceptionally terrible for the people. The downpours were so intense... And the gusts were so powerful," said the official.

There is significant concern that minors living in tents in wet attire will succumb to hypothermia and additional illnesses.

Deaths and Widespread Damage

Medical officials have confirmed that one baby has died from exposure and a minimum of 11 other people have been killed in building collapses triggered by the harsh conditions.

Further statements indicate a greater number of casualties. Spokespeople stated that numerous structures had collapsed completely and dozens had sustained partial collapse.

Aid Efforts Considered Not Enough

Agencies have stepped up deliveries of tarpaulins, bedding and garments after the truce started, but they emphasize there is continues to be not enough aid reaching those in need.

"Agencies are striving constantly to provide that aid and to hand it out, but the magnitude of the requirements is so vast that we still have thousands of individuals and minors who are truly struggling every night," warned one spokesperson.

Ongoing Challenges and Ceasefire Plans

The second phase of the agreement encompasses plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the pullback of personnel, and other conditions.

Humanitarian groups have stressed the necessity for "increased and sustained relief to respond to urgent and long-term requirements."
