New information has come to light concerning the untimely passing of renowned film director Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were located at their residence home on Sunday.
According to a report citing a person close to the family, a therapist scheduled for an appointment first raised the alarm after failing to get inside the house. This individual then reached out to the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides in the vicinity.
After gaining access to the home, Romy found her father's body. Reports state she then exited the property overwhelmed with grief, not realizing at that moment that her mother's body was there as well. Another individual who had accompanied her promptly called 911. Afterward, emergency responders found Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Law enforcement have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of murder in the first degree, as well as the alleged use of a deadly weapon, said to be a knife. He is presently detained and is ineligible for bail.
The person close to the family questioned several initial details. It was stated that while Romy Reiner informed emergency responders that her brother Nick lived in a detached unit on the grounds, she did not name him as a potential suspect at that time.
Furthermore refuted published suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been particularly "worried" about Nick's conduct in recent weeks. The source claimed the family was "accustomed to working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement also extends to descriptions of alleged "unpredictable" behavior by Nick at a event thrown by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the discovery. Although the source noted they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "rebuked" his son at the party, they maintained that suggestions of a "major confrontation" between the two were untrue.
Per law enforcement sources, the coroner had not yet established at that point whether the Reiners died Saturday night or on Sunday. Some media reports indicated the condition of their bodies implied they had been dead for some hours.
Nick Reiner was arrested at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park area, roughly 15 miles from the scene. He was set to be arraigned on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, stated his client had a medical issue and would not be present until Wednesday or later.
