England Secure Series Victory Following Third NZ T20 Washout, Harry Brook Left Frustrated

England's T20 contest versus New Zealand concluded just as it started, with a washout. On a previously dry day, the elements teased and taunted. Precipitation first appeared at 7.17pm, two minutes after the match began. Following a short restart, it returned, halted, allowed the crew some opportunity to dry the field, allowed the umpires to schedule a 10pm restart, and then fell once again at 9.59pm. Only 25 deliveries occurred.

"It's disappointing to travel all the way over to this part of the world and have just one match," Harry Brook stated. "Very frustrating."

Officially, the English side called correctly and chose to bowl. Two of the first three deliveries yielded boundaries, struck by Seifert—a tantalising glimpse of the scoring potential a combination of a placid wicket, a wild wind, and the small boundaries could have enabled.

The final balls cleared the ropes, Rachin Ravindra and Seifert pulling into the stands. New Zealand stood at 38 for one, from 3.4 overs, when the game officially ended.

Despite his disappointment, Harry still has three ODIs to come, but three members of the touring party won't continue when play shifts to the Bay Oval on the weekend. Zak Crawley (no balls faced) will stay in New Zealand to prepare for the Ashes while Salt and Jordan Cox (18) return home.

Friday marks the first anniversary of Cox being ruled out from England’s Test series here with a broken thumb sustained in training. He likely hopes his fortune in New Zealand could vary as local conditions.

This was the first time an international had been attempted in the city in October and clearly showed the reason. "I guess this time of year showers are likely," commented Mitchell Santner, the New Zealand captain. "It’s always nice to play England any season. The issue being that they were often they were supposed to be playing England not playing England."

England managed to secure a single win, thereby winning the series, and Harry's summary of it was as optimistic as the planners: "We experienced a hell of a lot of fun," he remarked. "We’ve gained a lot. Spending time as a group and try to become good mates can only help you on the field. We’ve had a lot of fun and smiles. It was truly valuable."
