The British designer Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer responsible for many legendary styles worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.
He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, including the soft-colored suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."
His passing follows shortly after he presented his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by Princess Diana.
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he began designing menswear at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with outfits on model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in designing sculptural silhouettes made him a "genuine original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.
By the 1990s, he commenced designing pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including a number of outfits for her US tour after becoming Duchess.
With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.
The fashion world laments the passing to a true visionary whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
